The Archer Lodge Community Center is proud to unveil Phase 1 of renovations to the community playground! This work was initiated to control drainage and eliminate erosion that had plagued the old playground surface for many years. With a generous grant from the Johnston County Open Space Fund, we were able to contract Proturf Landscapes of Wendell to assist on this project. The work includes a new wider wheelchair accessible walkway with retaining wall and built-in seating, new polymer edging and mulched play surface. The work required removal of the trees and overgrown shrubbery that had become a problem near the playground. There is also a newly sodded grass play area plus lots of drainage improvement that is not immediately evident but crucial to maintaining a safe playground. Large open spaces have us set up for phase 2 playground renovations that will include a new shade structure and the addition of new modern playground equipment appropriate for both younger and older kids. The Archer Lodge Community Center is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization. This work is only possible with the support of neighbors – like you! If you would like to make a financial donation to future playground improvements or assist with Community Center programs, please reach out to any current board member!
